Haunting
An interactive installation reflecting on missing persons.
About Project
Haunting is an interactive, multi-sensory installation inspired by the work of LABANOF (Laboratory of Forensic Anthropology and Odontology, Milan). The project explores the emotional condition of waiting and the unresolved experience of absence linked to missing persons. Visitors enter a darkened space where a shifting particulate form appears moves across multiple screens, evoking uncertainty and instability. An analog telephone at the center periodically rings, offering a choice to interact. Answering the call silences the soundscape and plays a recorded testimony, producing a brief moment of visual connection; ignoring the call causes a breakdown in communication, marked by a visual shift. In both cases, the system returns to a state of waiting, reinforcing repetition and unresolved tension. Through sound, light, and spatial design, Haunting places the visitor in a limited, listening-centered role that mirrors real experiences of prolonged uncertainty.
